A "Jolley" Time At Shepherd. . .

Tom and I went out to visit Bro. Jolley's assembly this morning.
We had a good time and were welcomed with open hearts.
It was a sweet service with lots of good testimonies.
It seemed like the theme was,
"Don't keep trying to carry your burdens. . .
lay what you want down so you can pick up the burden the Lord has for you."

We can do it. . .we can allow the Lord to give us the grace to quit holding on to the things we want  so we'll be able to pick up the important work God has for us to do. . .
HE's building a church and HE needs workers who are ready to lay down everything so
HE can be successful.
It's not about us, but about the Lord being high and lifted up.
Can we get under the load and help HIM build HIS church?
Can we work with our whole heart. . . not caring if we get any credit from others
but just for the sake of seeing Jesus get what HE desires.
Bro. James said something in his testimony that was a blunt truth. . .
He said one thing different about our ministers
compared to those in Babylon. . .
ours are willing to pastor even if they don't get big money. . .
they do it because of God's calling on their lives. . .
they just use their gift regardless. . .
but "out there" many preachers would give up ministry if they failed to get a big paycheck.
The service was also about helping with needs.
Sis. Pam (McFarLand) is facing surgery but needs to have a certain amount of money before the doctor will treat her.
The church is going to do some fund raising for her.
James laid his burden down at the Lord's feet and the Lord asked others to help carry it.
Calvin Nelson is donating a pig which DJ Berryman will butcher.
They're going to cook it and make sandwiches to sell at a local businesses in order to help.
You could certainly feel the love the church had for James and Pam. . .
folks were all crying just willingly sharing this burden.

After service the Jolley's took us to a really good restaurant. The food was excellent!
The old friends were genuine.
We were blessed.
Some neat "Jolley" facts.
Bro. Jolley put on his 1st suit (3 piece) while at our house. He was running around with Denny and at that time Denny lived with us.  Ricky was so nervous since he'd only worn bluejeans and western shirts before. . .Denny was encouraging him that he looked fine. . .but Ricky was afraid he looked really weird and before he left the house he only had the white shirt, cowboy necktie, and suit pants on. . .the vest and suit coat were saved for another service. . .but he'd made a giant step in dressing "up" for the Lord.
Bro. Jolley talked for the 1st time on the phone to Monyca at our house.
This phone call led to a lifelong relationship, four children
 and nine grandchildren.
He was so interested in Monyca and he was at the house with Denny again. . .
Ricky kept asking me what I thought about Monyca. . .
did I think she'd go out with him. . .
did I think she'd talk to him on the phone. . .
would I call her and ask her what she thought of him. . .
please, just call her and ask her. . .please. . .and on and on. . .
So I finally called Monyca and asked her if she'd like to talk to Rick Jolley who was very interested in talking to her. . .She wasn't certain. . .
she thought he was nice. . .
so I just handed the phone to Bro. Jolley and let him do his own talking.
Note: He must have said all the right things!
Bro. Jolley and Sis. Monyca were my kids "youth leaders".
The Jolley's always opened up their home as a place for the young folks to gather. . .following in the footsteps of the Walkers, the Wheats and the Wrights who were the prior youth leaders.
Bro. Jolley would "get excited" about his youth projects and the kids would respond to his excitement with enthusiasm of their own.
He would testify about how "wild and crazy" he was before he came to the Lord. . .but how much better his life was with Jesus. . .

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:29-30
