Greg . . . Paul. . .gone but not forgotten

Lots of things have happened since I last put my thoughts on my blog.

My brother-in-law, Melvin Gregory Martin, passed away from brain cancer on Christmas day.  Greg was a good man and we spent many, many hours at the hospital with he, Rachel and the kids.  It was a hard time, but also a good time as we all drew closer to the Lord and to one another.
Together we fought the battle rather than succumbing to defeat . . .we decided to stand together as servants of the Lord and allow Him to give us victory over the circumstances we could not change.  The Lord was faithful to help us.  We had many times of worship at Greg’s bedside as he was going through hospitals and all kinds of treatments.  Greg was able to keep his contact with the Lord.  He kept his spirit right toward the Lord and was willing to allow the Lord to give him strength daily. His wife, Rachel, was there at his side most all the time. . .his son, Eric was a soldier helping his father keep focus during the really rough times. ..Joanie and Bethany were there lifting him up too.  Greg’s whole family and their spouses were wonderful blessings to Greg during his final journey home.

Greg’s funeral was December 31st, 2013.  It was attended by many as he was well loved by all.  He always was able to make people laugh with his stories and he had many, many songs from the Lord which blessed God’s people through the years.

Then two days after Greg’s funeral, our other brother-in-law, Paul Davis, was killed when his car spun out of control on ice.

George Wirth ( my daddy) and Paul Davis at Sarah’s wedding in 2002

He died a few hours after the accident which was a real shock to our family and his wife. We all hurried to Mt. Carmel, IL for his funeral. Paul had been a minister most of his life. He had retired and worked a small cattle farm for the last few years in Kentucky.  Many people came to support Willa Mae, his wife, and his son, Brad and family. It was a sweet service.

So in just a few days we had lost the youngest and the oldest Peach girl’s husbands to death.
God is helping them both in their loss.

After Paul’s funeral on Saturday Tom and I went to visit a couple of my aunts. We took Hannah and Denny Wirth with us and it was a fun evening. The weather was crisply cool and we all laughed and sang songs or talked about days gone by. On the way back to Jon’s house we bought some pizza and chips and enjoyed visiting with our family the rest of the evening.

During the night I started hurting really badly. . .and the pain just kept increasing . . .all night I tossed and turned. . .used a heating pad. . .took something for pain. . .but I just kept getting worse.

By morning I was so bad my family was really worried for me.
They felt I should go to the hospital and I was so sick I didn’t know what to do. . . I was so full of pain I really couldn’t focus.
By the time I let them take me to the hospital I was really in bad shape!
The emergency room got right to work on me and found me full of infection.
They started helping me right away with pain killers and I really don’t know what all because I was too out of it.
Tom, Jon and Brenda were right there with me and praying for me.  Others came and sat waiting and praying for me in the waiting room.

In Texas it was found I had a cancerous tumor and some other problems they weren’t sure about.  I spent a week in the hospital and then after I was pretty infection free I was sent to another hospital to have more testing.   Long story –short, I decided to not have surgery or treatment but to trust God with my life . . .
but that’s a story for another day.

Douglas is dedicated. . .Robin - the niece that keeps on giving. . .

Baby Douglas Andrew Hanna is being dedicated to the Lord
by his daddy as his Uncle Denny
helps pray.
I'll have more pictures if I get them from Sarah and Chad.
It was a very sweet dedication with the other kids
singing and signing "My Name Is ________God Created Me".
Sarah gave a talk honoring her dad and I and saying she wanted
to hold a standard in her home that her children could feel secure in.

Bro. Gary Wright had preached a wonderful message on
holding the truths of God's Word high.
How we had to be willing to stand for righteousness and not bow down to
the lawlessness of the world.
It was a great service. . .as was Saturday night. . .and Sunday night was
POWERFUL!
It doesn't pay to miss a single service because God
is getting us ready to walk with Him.

Hopefully I'll have more pictures to post of the kids and Sarah
as they were singing.

In the front of them is little Mary with Jason at the family reunion.
This is a sweet gift from a sweet young lady.
Robin, Eric's wife, made Janet and I some jars of jelly
and some dish cloths. . .just because she loves us.
We do love her too.
She's always doing something good for others.
Robin mows for Greg and Rachel. .
keeps up the yard for them. . .
and they have a BIG yard if you've never seen it!
Some people just like to bless others. :)
For the record. . .the strawberry/blueberry was delicious. . .
it was opened last night after church.

Talk about a quick "turn around" time. . .Greg got to come home today!

Can you believe it?  Greg Martin went into the hospital on Saturday. . .
found out he had a brain tumor on Sunday. . .
Was transferred from Kingwood hospital on Monday. . .
To St. Joseph's Monday evening. . .
Tuesday morning we were all there bright and early because they did surgery before noon. . .
Tuesday evening he was doing great in recovery. . .they told us he'd be three days in ICU
and then five more days in the hospital if all went well. . .
Wednesday they had him up and walking. . .
Thursday he was doing so well the doctor said he was going to let him go home. . .
Friday - the day he should have been getting out of ICU - Greg hopped in the car
and headed home.

He was teasing the nurse before surgery about getting his head shaved. . .
told her he always thought he'd be better looking than Yul Brynner.
He had all the nurses and doctors getting a kick out of his banter.
I told him they'd be fighting over who got to take care of him.
He for sure was a fun patient.

Rachel, the love of Greg's life, is a constant. . .they are one. . .she shares his heart.
Greg's kids have all been right there helping their folks.
Eric is very protective of his "dear old dad". . .there is a very strong bond of love there.
Joanie and Bethany are right there helping too. . .a strong support network of love.
Robin is always doing cleaning, cooking, whatever she can to help.  She loves this family.
Brett is watching their two older boys at home so Joanie can be here. . .he'd like to be here too.
Ray has been running back and forth to pick up people or things needed.
All the "GRANDkids" have added life and laughter to this trial of faith.
Grandma and Grandpa Martin were right there to watch over their boy.
His sister, Missy, flew in to be there the day of surgery.
John Peach came down from Mt. Carmel to be here to see Greg and let him know he's loved.
Rachel's family, Greg's in-laws, church family, friends from work,
calls from all across the country and even Hawaii. . .just everywhere people
love Greg Martin and have been holding him up in prayer.

"God, we just want you to know we appreciate the personality you placed in Greg Martin's life.
We thank you for all the times he blesses us with his humor.
We thank you for all the times he blesses us with the songs he gets while he is listening to your voice
speaking to his heart.
Lord, thank you for all the times Greg has worked with young people at the church.
Thank you for the times he helped teach the band in Porter. . .
for all the youth trips he was willing to head up.
Lord, thank you for letting us enjoy life together all these years. . .
and thank you for all the years you've still got planned for us to work together in your
kingdom.
Help us to appreciate every single day you give us. . .we are so blessed!
God, I pray you will help each of Greg and Rachel's kids, their spouses, and grand kids to catch
firm hold of the great vision of the Body of Christ.
Rachel and Greg have given their whole lives in service to the Lord.
They have been willing workers when they were young teens. . .
when they were newly weds. . .
when they were young parents. . .
when they were new grand-parents. . .
and now, ten grand kids later, they are ready to retire  but they are still giving you service.
God, I pray you will give them many more happy years in your service.
Please allow them to "see" Eric, Joanie and Bethany all giving themselves to you without
reservation.. . .
God, we know your plan is better than our plan. . .so we are going to
"see" what you have in store for tomorrow.
Help Greg and Rachel do more for you than ever.
Help them to be bold in their witness for you.  Help them to stand stronger in the faith than ever.
Lord, help them to have victory in this trial. . .make it a blessing.
God, we know that somehow, you WILL make a way".
krp

Bye the way. . .we had a good time at their home this evening.
We fixed a couple of pots of soup and made some really good desserts.
After we finished eating we sat around singing songs and feeling the Lord.
Later Tom and Greg  sang old songs from
our youth. . .and Rachel too.   It was a fun time together.
We are family.

Here's the nice, clean incision.  Looks like his doctor is pretty skilled with needle work. . .
nice, even stitches. Please pray for Greg as he begins radiation treatments.
There's a race that he must run. . .there are victories to be won!

Jesus will help us. . .if we let Him. . .and we are going to let Him.

Please Pray for Melvin "Greg"ory Martin. . .

Greg Martin. . .a man of God. . .worthy of our prayers.

Our family just found out (Saturday) our dear brother, Greg, has a brain lesion / tumor about the size of a Lima bean.
It has been causing him to have lots of problems with stroke -like symptoms.
They have been doing lots of testing to determine if this is the only problem or if it is part of a more exensive problem.
The doctors are giving him meds to reduce the inflammation around the tumor, which is causing the symptoms he's experiencing.
The doctors want to do surgery on him this week. . .but Rachel and Greg are going to have him transferred to
another hospital downtown if possible.
They would like to use the same doctor, Murphey, that did Darlena's surgery.

Please pray for Greg, Rachel, Eric, Joanie and Bethany and their families especially. . .
There are so many decisions to make and they want to make the best ones.

Greg has written many beautiful songs for God's people to enjoy. . .he sings really well. . .plays the trumpet in the church band. . .Greg can give excellent edifying talks and even some preaching when the Lord
kicks him in gear. . .through the years Greg and Rachel helped head up the Porter Hee-Haw that Bro. Patton
and Bro. George Wright loved so much. . .they are just good workers in God's kingdom.
The Friday before Greg went into the hospital they'd just returned from the Gospel of the Kingdom work week.
Greg is the life of the party type guy. . .everyone loves to hear him tell stories about anything because
he just has a way with words. . .he brings laughter to the table. . .we love him.

Please join us in prayer!

This is the younger version of Rachel and Greg Martin. . .they are loved by all.

Welcome Ellie Raeann. . .she's a doll!

 “Welcome Ellie” to the family.
Look at that pretty face.

6 pounds 11 ounces. . . 17 ¾ inches
Born on 1/29/13 at 1:06 p.m.

Robbie and Josiah watch Ellie through the window.
She is blessed to have two big brothers to come home to.
Robbie now has two little ones who will be watching him
and vying for his attention.

What a pretty little bundle for Bethany and Ray.
I know this girl will be dressed like a princess.
Her mother knows how to put clothes together!

Bethany’s surgery went well.
It won’t be long and they’ll be in church introducing
Ellie to her church family.

Peaches believe in having children. . .and loving them.
Martin’s too!
Folks who love children are thinking like Jesus. . .
he loved children.
We are so blessed!

Here's a clip of some of the Peach kids at Christmas. . .Happy Birthday Dear Jesus. . .

And on another note. . .Happy Birthday John Cooley!

Thanksgiving Day 2012

Here it is, our Thanksgiving Day of 2012.
The Tom Peach family
Tom and Karen.
I am so blessed to have such a creative man for my husband.
He makes all kinds of neat things to help us have special memories of events.
Like this little Prairie house. . .he put this up for me so all could get their
pictures made in it. . .and he had plenty of props in the great room of the shop
to make it look rustic.
We have been blessed to have the energy to have these outing most Thanksgivings,
Christmases and 4th's of July. . .plus some in between.
This year Tom, Chad, Janet, Michelle, Doug and his boys all
helped get things together. . .it was a blessing to work together.

One more note, My folks were married on Thanksgiving Day 61 years ago and
Stan proposed to and gave a ring to Becky on Thanksgiving Day in 1995.
We owe so much of our happiness to the moral fiber our parents (Peach/Wirth)
and grandparents embraced. . .we carry much of the love they invested into
our lives inside our hearts and we are trying to continue in their example.

The Sam Perry family
Janet and the Preacher man..
Davita and Phillip were out of town visiting Phillips family.
David and Krista were with her family.
Kristen and Kevin weren't able to come because he couldn't get off work.

The Chad Hanna family
George, Chad, Travis, Laura, Sarah and Kimberly

The Stan Peach Family
Brooklyn, Kathryn, Emily, Stan, Jesse, Becky and Jillian

The Doug Wirth family
Joseph, Daniel, Doug, David (Bucky), Rachel and Paul

The Denny Wirth family
Michelle, Ashley, Brayden, Denny and Jaida
Autumn and Josh couldn't come since they'd just taken off to go to Abby's wedding.

Jon's entire family didn't get to make it as they had just used lots
of time and energy getting their daughter married. . .
Abby and Andrew are in Texas now, but they were barely home from
their honeymoon!

Below you see the Stephens' family.
We were glad to have them share our day with us.
All the boys had a great time and we enjoyed them so much.
When their dad was ready to leave the boys talked him into
staying longer. . .so they were still here for the fireside.
Jacob was getting into frontier character below.

Some folks didn't come by for the whole day, but were here for a while.
Here's Barbara and David Peach with George getting in on the hug.
Then we were also honored to have Sis Margaret Orand come by
to eat and fellowship with us.
We've made her part of our "holiday family".

Doug Stephen's mother, Mary, enjoyed the day with us.
She was in town from DesMoines, Iowa.
She attends Bro. Goodwin's church.
It was a pleasure to get to know her and get better acquainted with her family.

Brayden has his mouth full of Sarah's "cutie" oranges. . .
He can put away the food!
Travis enjoys just sitting out on the stump beside the prairie house with
his big straw hat.

Janet, Rachel and Doug help get last minute coffee and etc. ready.

Rachel goes outside to see if she can help carry some food into the building.
Notice that we even had a table for the two toddlers to sit at.
There was a table for men, a table for women, For younger kids and for the older.
We also had high chairs for the two babies so we ALL got to sit down together.

Above we have Doug and Chad who both helped to make sure each family
attending got their pictures taken.
Below, Doug helps make sure the little prairie house was all set up for
pictures.  The kids had a good time playing in it all day.
The boys used it as a stable, the girls a house.

Tom and Stan get a little time to talk to one another. . .
what a good dad Stan has. . .what a good son Tom has.
They are both blessed.

Stan with baby Emily Jane. . .she was glad to be in
her daddy's arms, outside with the other kids.
In the background you can see little Kimmie Jo.

The kids just didn't want to quit playing.
It was really neat that day because all the kids, young and old,
played together.  The older kids let the little kids play
hide and seek on their perspective teams. . .and just rope. . .high jump. . .
and corn hole toss. . .etc.
They climbed all over the play set too..

Later that evening we lit up a fire in a huge old cast-iron kettle and
sat around talking while the kids played.
Here Chad was getting things started. . .
Doug helped the kids makes s/mores. . .Yum. . .Yum.

And here's our little frontier girl, Laura Jean. . .she wore he hat a lot of the day.
That’s all folks. . .There was so much activity, so much fun and games going on that
we just didn’t think about taking more pictures.  Doug may have some I don’t have.

"Dear Lord, I want to thank you from my heart for another year of freedom in our country. . .freedom to give thanks openly to you for all the blessings of life.
Thank you Lord for giving us this property to host events.
Thank you for giving us family and friends who want to share the day with us.
Thank you for the love that can be felt running all through the house/shop,
out in the yard, around the tables. . .it isn't something that everyone has at their
family dinners.
Lord, thank you for all the loads of food we once again had on the table.
It seems like everyone here wants to do "their share" of blessing others.
I am so blessed!
Thank you for all the many years of Thanksgivings, just like this one today
that I spent at my Pappy and Granny Bare's home. . . Or with my
Grandma and Grampa Banks. . .
Or at my own parents home when their folks were too old and tired to
continue having things at their home.
We are Family. . .family with so much love we can even give it to others who
come by. . .with so much happiness we won't lose anything by sharing it with you. . .
God you have blessed us with the things in life that really matter most
and it our duty and our pleasure to bless others.
Your Child, krp"
